The article Implementation of Targeted Medication Adherence Interventions within a Community Chain Pharmacy Practice: The Pennsylvania Project written by PittPharmacy Adjunct Professor Jennifer Bacci, PharmD ’11 was published in the November/ December 2014 issue of the Journal of the American Pharmacist Association.

This study was a follow-up study to Associate Professor Janice L. Pringle’s, study, “The Pennsylvania Project: Pharmacist Intervention Boosts Drug Adherence, Reduces Health Costs,” published in Health Affairs Fall 2014. This qualitative analysis of the Pennsylvania Project demonstrated that there are a series of key steps that can be taken before executing targeted interventions that may promote successful implementation in community chain pharmacies. These key steps are to understand the relationship of patient care programs to the corporate vision; provide individualized, continual support and mentoring to pharmacists; anticipate barriers prior to implementation of patient care programs; encourage active patient engagement; and established and share best practices regarding implementation.

Bacci conducted this study during her community residency with the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and Rite Aid Pharmacy during the 2011-2012 residency year. She was mentored by Janice L. Pringle PhD and Melissa A. Somma McGivney, PharmD, FCCP, FAPhA
