Student Society Spotlight

PittPharmacy’s Student Society of Health-system Pharmacy (SSHP) Chapter’s Dean Theme project Fun in the Sun was selected by ASHP as a feature spotlight in their Student Forum Newslink .

Two organizations in the School of Pharmacy, Student Society of Health-system Pharmacy and Lambda Kappa Sigma, collaborated and presented an educational program about sun health and safety for undergraduate students at the university.

The primary objective of the program was to inform students why sun protection is important. The event was geared primarily toward students who were planning to go on a spring break trip. A wide range of topics was covered including  skin care through the seasons, skin cancer prevention/recognition, and medications that cause photosensitivity. The nature of the program was to hold an event that stressed the importance of skin health and ways for undergraduates to protect themselves from the sun’s harmful rays.

97% of the students that participated stated that the program improved their knowledge of sun related disorders and 95% stated their knowledge of ways to protect themselves in the sun improved.
