James C. Coons, PharmD ’00, BCPS (AQ Cardiology) was an invited speaker at the ACCP Global Conference on Clinical Pharmacy, October 2015, in San Francisco, California. Coons’ presentation, Bivalirudin versus Heparin During Percutaneous Coronary Intervention was featured as part of the Cardiology PRN Focus Session – Making Blood Sense of Antithrombotic Therapy During Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.

Coons’ clinical and research interests focus on the use of anticoagulants and antiplatelets in patients that undergo percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). He has received funding from the ASHP Foundation to evaluate the pharmacist’s role in the clinical implementation of pharmacogenomics for patients that receive antiplatelets after undergoing PCI.

Coons is an associate professor in the department of pharmacy and therapeutics at PittPharmacy and a clinical pharmacist specializing in cardiology at UPMC Presbyterian University Hospital.
