PittPharmacy graduate student Lingjue Li was awarded the Top Overall Poster at the 14th Annual Safar Symposium, held at the University Club on May 16-17, 2016. The Safar Symposium is a two-day multi-departmental research conference held jointly by the Safar Center for Resuscitation Research and the Peter M. Winter Institute for Simulation Education and Research (WISER) in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Li’s poster was titled No-reflow Phenomenon: Alteration of Cerebral Microcirculation After Cardiac Arrest in Developing Rats. Li presented her poster with novel findings in cerebral microcirculation after pediatric cardiac arrest as a part of her ongoing project. She observed and characterized the No-reflow Phenomenon first time in vivo after global ischemia. Utilizing the two-photon microscopy, the effect of the No-reflow Phenomenon was evaluated on red blood cell velocity, plasma transit time and microvessel diameter change. This work is significant since it demonstrated the alterations in the cerebral microcirculation after pediatric cardiac arrest therefore revealed potential therapeutic targets to improve the neurological outcome for these patients.
Li is a PittPharmacy graduate student in the clinical pharmaceutical scientist program track. Her advisor is Associate Dean for Graduate and Postdoctoral Programs, Professor Samuel M. Poloyac, PharmD, PhD. Her co-advisor is Assistant Professor Mioara D. Manole, MD in Safar Center for Resuscitation Research.
