PittPharmacy_JoshuaNiznik_0016Joshua Niznik, PharmD’15, was awarded an NIH Institutional National Research Service Award. This T32 training grant is funded by the Division of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. The Division of Geriatric Medicine is designated as a National Center of Excellence by the John A. Hartford Foundation and has produced nationally recognized research in a number of areas including aging, cancer, dementia, and pharmacotherapy.

Niznik will be working with his advisor, Carolyn Thorpe, PhD, MPH, on a project to use Medicare administrative data to identify factors predicting the prescribing of anticholinergic medications in older adults in nursing homes. The results from this study will provide insight into the prescribing of potentially unsafe medications in older adults and will serve as a foundation for future planned research to investigate medication-related geriatric syndromes in this population.”
