The event is an opportunity for students in grades 5-12 to listen, interact, and learn about topics in various areas of science. PittPharmacy class of 2019 members Meghan McLinden, Jessie Marini, Max Prokopovich, and Jordan Serio developed a poster on the opiate overdose epidemic and how to appropriately administer naloxone to reverse an overdose. A step by step demonstration of how to administer naloxone to an overdose victim was provided using a human patient simulator as the victim. The high school students were able to observe how an overdose affects the body by viewing real time vital signs on a patient monitor and how recovery occurs after the naloxone is administered.  Also included in the presentation was an opioid receptor demonstration.  Our PittPharmacy students were able to interact with high school age students and brought some attention to the severity of the overdose epidemic and the use of naloxone to save lives.
