Wen Xie, MD, PhD, professor of pharmaceutical sciences, the Joseph Koslow Endowed Chair in Pharmaceutical Science, and director of the Center for Pharmacogenetics, is the sole editor for the book Drug Metabolism in Diseases published by Academic Press/Elsevier in September 2016. This 11-chapter and 283-page book is intended to provide an updated and expert overview on the disease effect on drug metabolism and disposition. Understanding the disease effect on drug metabolism is highly relevant to precision medicine and is expected to facilitate the efficient and safe use of drugs in the clinic.

Contributing authors to Xie’s book include leading researchers in the field from the United States, Canada, Germany, China, and Netherlands. University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy colleagues who participated in the writing of chapters include faculty members Samuel Poloyac, PharmD, PhD Thomas Nolin, PharmD, PhDJames Coons, PharmD, BCPC (AQ CV), Philip Empey, PharmD, PhD, graduate student Peipei Lu, and visiting graduate student Xiaojuan Chai.
