Lee McDermott, PhD is part of the research team with David Ryan Koes in Computational & Systems Biology on a grant from the National Institute of Health (NIH) for the study Methods, Tools, and Resources for Interactive Online Virtual Screening and Lead Optimization. Research Assistant Prema Iyer, PhD also has effort on this research.

Objective of the grant is to develop novel computational chemistry tools for the identification and optimization of small molecule leads against biological targets. The proposed work will substantially enhance and extend the resources developed during a previous project as well as provide new, open-source tools and methods for computational drug design.

McDermott is an assistant professor in the pharmaceutical sciences department at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy.
